[The accused present]
-
[Upon commencing at 9.30 a.m.]
-
Thank you. Yes, Mr Griffiths.
-
Good morning, Mr President, your Honours, counsel opposite. For the Defence today myself, Courtenay Griffiths, assisted by my learned friends Mr Morris Anyah and Mr Isaac Ip.
-
Thank you, Mr Griffiths. You can continue.
-
Mr President, there is a matter that I would like to raise with the Court, not in terms of a request for any particular order, but I think it important, given its significance, that the Court be alerted to it, because it might have implications for the later smooth running of the case. I wonder if it could raise that in private session.
-
Yes, I would like to put - in other words, you want a private session or a closed session?
-
A private session will do, Mr President.
-
Yes, I would like to put some reason on record. Is it --
-
It involves certain security issues relating to the Defence team.
-
That may involve the security of one of the Defence team, or one of the witnesses?
-
Well, all of the Defence team.
-
All right, thank you. Well, those - do you have any objection, Ms Hollis?
-
Not at all.
-
All right. Those members of the public that are following this case, we are going to have what I think would probably be a fairly short session in private. That means that you will be able to watch the proceedings while the private session is taking place, but you won't be able to hear what is going on and as soon as that session is over, the sound will be turned back on again. Madam Court Manager, we will go into private session, please. Incidentally, the reason is that it concerns the security of members of the Defence team, and that is why it is being held in a private session.
-
[At this point in the proceedings, a portion of the transcript, pages 25338 to 25342, was extracted and sealed under separate cover, as the proceeding was heard in private session.]
-
[Open session]
-
Your Honour, we are in open session.
-
Thank you. Yes, continue, Mr Griffiths.
-
All that remains is for the witness to be reminded of his oath.
-
You are still on your declaration to tell the truth, Mr Taylor.
