[The accused present]
-
[Upon commencing at 9.30 a.m.]
-
Good morning. I will take appearances please, Ms Hollis.
-
Good morning Madam President, your Honours, counsel opposite. This morning for the Prosecution, Maja Dimitrova and myself Brenda J Hollis.
-
Thank you, Ms Hollis. Mr Griffiths.
-
Good morning Madam President, your Honours. This morning for the Defence, myself Courtenay Griffiths, my learned friend Mr Terry Munyard, my learned friend Mr Morris Anyah and also Thomas Scott an intern working with the Defence team. Good morning counsel opposite.
-
Thank you, Mr Griffiths. Ms Hollis, I note we don't appear to have a witness in the witness box.
-
Your Honours, the Prosecution will call the witness TF1-567. This witness has the following protective measures: That is the use of a pseudonym, screen, image and voice distortion as well as closed session where necessary. Your Honours, in regard to the closed session where necessary, I have spoken with the witness and private session where necessary would suffice for the needs.
-
Thank you very much for that information, Ms Hollis. I will check that these - sorry, which language will the witness give his or her evidence in?
-
The witness will give his evidence in Krio.
-
Thank you. Have we a Krio interpreter in position?
-
Yes, your Honours.
-
Very good. Can I have the screen and image distortion and the voice distortion in place, please. Just for purposes of record, I don't have my most recent decision concerning witness protection measures to hand.
-
Your Honour, that was a decision of 13 March 2008 from this Trial Chamber.
-
Thank you.
-
Your Honours, just for your information we will request a short private session at the very beginning for the personal data concerning the witness.
-
I am not sure who is leading - taking this witness for the Defence. You have heard the application.
-
I will be, your Honour. I have no objections to that course being adopted.
-
Thank you. Please sit down, Mr Witness. Just one procedural matter before we swear you. For purposes of public record, in accordance with rules I think 75 or 79, we will be having a closed session to protect the security of the witness. This is not opposed by the Defence - a private session, so there will not be a broadcast and the sound will not be heard.
Also it has just been brought to my attention, Ms Hollis, there was an amending order of 7 May 2008, but I recall that this witness was not in the annexure to that order.
-
That is correct.
-
I do recall there was one that was slightly amended. I think it was this witness.
-
Your Honour, there were two witnesses affected by that. This witness was not.
-
Thank you for that, Ms Hollis. Please proceed now, Madam Court Attendant, to swear the witness.
