  • [Open session]

  • [The accused present]

  • [Upon commencing at 9.03 a.m.]

  • Good morning. We will take appearances first, please.

  • Good morning, Madam President. Good morning your Honours, and counsel opposite. For the Prosecution this morning, Nicholas Koumjian and Maja Dimitrova. Your Honours, I do have a brief matter related to a request for redaction to address the Court on at some point.

  • Good morning, Madam President, your Honours, counsel opposite. For the Defence today, myself, Courtenay Griffiths, with me Mr Silas Chekera, Ms Logan Hambrick and Ms Fatmata Jalloh, who has been with us before.

  • Thank you, Mr Griffiths. Mr Koumjian, we will now hear you on that preliminary matter.

  • Your Honour, in order to make the argument, I would have to do that in private session, otherwise compound the issue.

  • Very well. Madam Court Manager, please arrange a brief private session so we can hear something to do with the protection of witnesses.

  • [At this point in the proceedings, a portion of the transcript, pages 44948 to 44951, was extracted and sealed under separate cover, as the proceeding was heard in private session.]

  • [Open session]

  • Your Honour, we are in open session.

  • Now, of course, I do note that on the transcript, that open session appears prematurely, I hope that this is taken into account.

Now, we've returned momentarily in open session only for me to announce that a request has been made by Defence counsel whereby he wishes to examine the current witness relating to the testimony of another protected witness who testified in closed session, and so we will return or revert to closed - to private session in order for Mr Griffiths to examine Mr Sesay around this area.

  • [At this point in the proceedings, a portion of the transcript, pages 44953 to 45087, was extracted and sealed under separate cover, as the proceeding was heard in private session.]

  • [Whereupon the hearing adjourned at 4.30 p.m. to be reconvened on Friday, 30 July 2010 at 9.00 a.m.]
